Straight toothed racks
GENERAL INTRODUCTION
Straight toothed racks are the most common type among these transmission components. The name clearly reveals their profile: teeth are flat and parallel to gear axis. However, unlike standard racks, precision racks are designed according to the high-quality standards of accuracy classes which admit specific tolerances and lead errors. This is synonym of higher resistance and precision in positioning.
Due to their simple construction and top efficiency performance, straight toothed racks are used in plenty of fields: from industrial automation to robotic, from machine tools assembly to material handling systems development and much more.
STRENGHTS
The main advantage of straight toothed racks is their easier and low-cost assembly compared to spiral toothed racks. Similarly, their engagement with gears is simple as well. Contact along the entire length of teeth ensures an efficient and precise transmission of power. However, a slight backlash occurs when in-contact teeth disengage and the next ones start engagement at the same time, likely causing impact noise and vibrations. Nevertheless, friction forces are significantly reduced in precision racks, thus providing a more precise and silent transmission.
GROUND STRAIGHT TOOTHED RACKS
Straight toothed racks are characterized by the possible application of a grinding treatment compared to standard racks. Our company supplies either partially or totally ground racks, since this finishing can be both applied to teeth only and teeth and surface completely. The advantage of grinding treatment is the reduction of backlash. This leads to a significantly decrease of noise and vibrations, higher fluency and greater precision in positioning during motion transmission.
